Welcome to the Gladestry Shepherd’s Hut…

  Me and my girlfriend both loved this. It even snowed which gave us the Christmas spirit.

  we spent a wonderfully peaceful night at Rita's Shepherd hut. It was warm, comfortable and welcoming. We'd recommend dinner at the Royal Oak pub which is just 2 minutes walk away.

  Lovely place. Well equipped and super bathroom. Given the small space, cooking, especially using the induction hobs was a bit of a challenge .

  Such great place to stay in, scenic, private and easy to find. David was delightful and very helpful!

  Wow! We have just returned from a one night stay at Rita and David’s lovely shepherds hut. The pictures do not do this wonderful hideaway justice.
The garden, complete... read more with established plants and shrubs, gives plenty of privacy from the road - which, we heard and saw very little traffic from.
A wonderful location to explore mid-Wales - we visited Elan Valley, Water Break It’s Neck, paddled in the Wye at Builth Wells and Hay-on-Wye during our stay.
There are public footpaths for an evening stroll, or even walking through the village is do-able with such little traffic around.
The hut itself was perfectly equipped for a short break. We felt no expense was spared for guest comfort - Roku TV facilitates Netflix, YouTube and streaming, and the black out blinds are a great way to get a well deserved holiday lie-in.
We didn’t cook in the hut, but made use of local takeaway in Kington, just a 10-min drive away. Overall, a perfect stay and a very warm welcome from David - thank you!

We had the pleasure of meeting both David and Rita who are such wonderful, friendly, very helpful and down to earth hosts, giving us an initial tour and ensuring we had everything we needed for a comfortable night stay! The shepherds hut more than exceeded our expectations and nestled in such a beautiful and peaceful location, with a gorgeous garden and a lovely running stream alongside making it the ideal place to switch off and also accessible to beautiful walks and villages on both the Welsh and English border! Thankyou so much both David and Rita for your wonderful hospitality, we wish we could have stayed longer! 😊

  A beautiful Sheperd's hut situated in a lovely garden, neighboured by a stream, in Gladestry. Hosts were fantastic, flexible and easy to contact. They've clearly put a lot of time... read more into building, maintaining and decorating this hut. Very well furnished, a vibrant garden and a decking between the hut and the stream - a lovely evening spot.

We stayed at the hut with the hopes of driving into Hay-on-Wye, which was perfectly doable within 25 minutes.

Would highly recommend and will definitely return again.

The hut is situated in a lovely garden and is just off a public footpath which takes you through the fields that wrap around the hut.
David, my host was really helpful and gave me a quick tour of the hut so that I knew where everything was and how it all worked. I would definitely stay here again if I am back in the area.

Lovely country roads to get to the Hut and quite easy to find. We have not had the chance to meet Rita but David was here to welcome us and give us a little room tour.

What a place they’ve created! Exactly as shown on the pictures. Lovely little hut with all necessary amenities.

We’ve had such a great stay and would recommend it to anyone wanting to stay in a quiet place. The little river by the hut was such a nice feature.

  Lovely stay at the shepherds hut, peaceful surroundings. Great hosts, nothing was too much trouble, very informative of location and instructions. Very clean and cosy.

You need to know that Gladestry is very small. It’s a lovely... read more place but there’s no shop and the pub doesn’t serve food every night, so getting an evening meal might be a problem if you don’t plan ahead. I think the Pub serves food Thursday - Sunday.
Don’t let this put you off. Ask David and Rita for their advice well in advance if you’re walking. They will help sort this out for you.
