The hut was very clean, everything was comfortable and there were lovely finishing touches too. We didn’t use the outside space because of the weather but the location was very peaceful and quiet with a lovely stream running through the garden. Lots of lovely countryside views and walks in the area as well. The hut also had a heater to keep it warm. The bed was fairly low and firm with comfortable bedding and we had it set up as a double option which was the two beds pushed together. David was also great and showed us around when we arrived and said he would be available if there were any questions or if we needed anything. Great weekend, thank you!

I was looking for a quiet getaway and found it in this beautifully situated shepherds hut. Parked up in a... read more garden full of fox gloves, surrounded by trees, sitting by a wonderfully sparkly babbling brook and serenaded by song thrushes, blackbirds, swifts and so many more of our arial cousins.

The hut is clean and tidy. Fully equipped kitchen, a lovely hot shower. There were some lovely little touches such as soft fluffy slippers for those tired feet after a hard hiked, coffee & tea to warm up and even shower gel and hand wash were supplied

The welcome was warm and informative. Both David and Rita were friendly and responsive to queries.

I left rested and wanting to stay longer. A perfect spot for hikers and escapers!!

You... read more can tell they pride themselves on ensuring their guests have everything they need, and some, with thoughtful extras that didn’t go unnoticed. The shower temperature/pressure was great, the bed super comfortable, the heater worked well and overall the space was extremely clean

On arrival, after David’s greeting, he suggested a great pub, The Harp Inn with incredible views (highly recommend - thanks David)

For the remainder of my stay, the weather wasn’t on my side, however this meant I was able to spend more time in the hut which was a real joy! I did venture to the Book town Hay-on-Wye which was a lovely way to spend a rainy afternoon, only 20 minute drive away

The local pub (the Royal Oak) didn’t serve food on the night we were staying, but we nevertheless enjoyed an excellent meal we cooked ourselves using the convection / microwave oven and the two induction hobs. We’d thoroughly recommend the Shepherd’s Hut.

The radiator had been put ready for us. It took a while to warm up the hut but when it had, it was lovely and cosy.
The hut is clean and has everything you need for an overnight stay. Please remember to take any milk, bread or food items because the shop is 3.5 mile drive away.
We visited the local pub, it was friendly and cosy. Thank you, we had an enjoyable stay.

  we spent a wonderfully peaceful night at Rita's Shepherd hut. It was warm, comfortable and welcoming. We'd recommend dinner at the Royal Oak pub which is just 2 minutes walk away.

  Wow! We have just returned from a one night stay at Rita and David’s lovely shepherds hut. The pictures do not do this wonderful hideaway justice.
The garden, complete... read more with established plants and shrubs, gives plenty of privacy from the road - which, we heard and saw very little traffic from.
A wonderful location to explore mid-Wales - we visited Elan Valley, Water Break It’s Neck, paddled in the Wye at Builth Wells and Hay-on-Wye during our stay.
There are public footpaths for an evening stroll, or even walking through the village is do-able with such little traffic around.
The hut itself was perfectly equipped for a short break. We felt no expense was spared for guest comfort - Roku TV facilitates Netflix, YouTube and streaming, and the black out blinds are a great way to get a well deserved holiday lie-in.
We didn’t cook in the hut, but made use of local takeaway in Kington, just a 10-min drive away. Overall, a perfect stay and a very warm welcome from David - thank you!

Very well furnished, a vibrant garden and a decking between the hut and the stream - a lovely evening spot.

We stayed at the hut with the hopes of driving into Hay-on-Wye, which was perfectly doable within 25 minutes.

Would highly recommend and will definitely return again.

Lovely country roads to get to the Hut and quite easy to find. We have not had the chance to meet Rita but David was here to welcome us and give us a little room tour.

We’ve had such a great stay and would recommend it to anyone wanting to stay in a quiet place. The little river by the hut was such a nice feature.

You need to know that Gladestry is very small. It’s a lovely... read more place but there’s no shop and the pub doesn’t serve food every night, so getting an evening meal might be a problem if you don’t plan ahead. I think the Pub serves food Thursday - Sunday.
Don’t let this put you off. Ask David and Rita for their advice well in advance if you’re walking. They will help sort this out for you.
